Rye at the crease – finally

After the postponement of last week’s match against Crawley following poor playing conditions, Rye Cricket Club finally take to the field – and this time they’ll be at home as they start their 2014 campaign in the Sussex Cricket League Division 4. The opposition Keymer & Hassocks started their campaign with a win away to Lewes Priory. Lewes were bowled out for 62 setting Keymer & Hassocks a target of 63 which they easily reached in just 11.5 overs following a great innings by Lee Pittavino who hit 28 from 29 balls with just the fall of 2 wickets. Whilst Rye’s 1st XI were disappointed with the postponement of their fixture the 2nd XI won there first game of the new campaign at home to Crawleys 2nd XI. Crawley won the toss and decided to bowl hoping to take advantage of the windy conditions. Rye batted steadily with Jack Dudley scoring 39 before h was bowled by James Culverwell. Rye set the visitors a total of 167 before bowling Crawley all out for 99 with Ryan Dowdeswell taking an impressive six wickets.
