Rye Thirds took centre stage this weekend as they returned the only adult League Win on Saturday. They defeated Robertsbridge 4ths by 10 runs, and rise to 2nd place in Division 12 East (S/E) in the Sussex County League. The 3rds batted first scoring 197 -7 off 40 overs. Colin O’Neill 44 and Kris Morton 44 set up the innings as Anthony Bradnum 32 not out ensured that 197 runs were posted.

In reply Rye reduced Robertsbridge to 20-5 as 15 year old James Archer took 3-15 and Anthony Bradnum 3-19. Then Edward Flint 89 led the fightback from 82-8 to finish on 187-9. A close call but 30 more points for Rye as James Archer returned to dismiss Flint.

This Saturday Rye 3rds host Sidley 2nds at Icklesham.

The 1st Xl travelled to League Leaders St Peters and suffered a 71 run defeat. St Peters amassed 296-7 off 45 overs. St Peters made a positive start through Max Wheatley 58 and Harry Craker 65. They were dismissed and St Peters stumbled 5 wickets down, but then Sharuvinothan Yoganathan hit 76 off 49 balls incuding 9 6s. A hard slog for the Rye attack in the sun of Brighton.

Rye’s response was led by James Hamilton 57 and Luke Payton 85, but apart from Chanuka Dilshan 25 they lacked support as Rye were dismissed for 225 in 37.2 overs. This Saturday the 1sts play host to Glynde 1sts at the Rye Cricket Salts in the Diamond Koz Pavilion.

The 2nds performed poorly in the Derby game versus Iden 1sts. Rye batted first and were all out for 136. Wickets were lost to indifferent shots and good catching by Iden. Mark Cook top scored with 25. The score of 136 was in main to an unbroken 34 run partnership for the 10th wicket between Ross Pierce 23no and Martin Blincow 12no.

In reply the 2nds again missed opportunities in the field as Iden eased past the target for the loss of 5 wickets in the 31st over. Phil Shanks 50 not out and Rob Clemence 44 did the damage. This Saturday the 2nds travel to Seaford.
