Next Tuesday, August 7, Rye are holding the Richard Merricks Memorial Match, as a celebration of the contribution made to Rye Cricket Club by Richard as a committee member for over 50 years. Rick Merricks was Mr Cricket and known by so many in the world of cricket. Pictured here talking with John Emburey. Sadly Richard passed away in June 2017.

Rye will be playing a Richard Merricks XI, selected from players and sons of players, who played for Rick’s teams over many years. Tim Eldridge will be skippering the team, with a Lovell, a Balcomb and a Fielding playing. The match commences at 11:30am, which is sponsored by Peter Farrow Jewellers.

At lunchtime there will be a short ceremony at which the newly extended upstairs room of the Sidney Allnutt Pavilion will be opened by Jill Merricks, and named The Richard Merricks Room.

In the evening the day will end with a Curry Supper provided by Mahdi Spice. It is hoped past members and friends will be able to join the club during the match or in the evening.
