It was another disappointing day last Saturday as all 3 teams slipped to defeat. Rye 1sts lost at home to Crawley Eagles, in part due to mother nature’s fickle behaviour. At the toss under blue skies Rye elected to bat. However 30 minutes later dark clouds rolled in and Rye suffered two rain interruptions from the only rain shower in England. With good bowling conditions Crawley Eagles made the most of unheard activities this season of swing and seam and Rye were dismissed for 111 in the 30th over. Tea was taken and when Crawley started their innings the blue skies returned. Rye made early inroads and Craig Pierce, 3-27, and Carl Mumba, 2-44, threatened at 15-3 and 65-5 but the conditions now favoured batting and Crawley Eagles went past the target in the 23rd over.

This Saturday Rye travel to Crowhurst Park where they need points to ensure their survival in Division 3 East after a poor second half of the season.

Rye 2nds suffered defeat away to Eastbourne 3rds. Rye were dismissed for just 80. Spencer Fielding, 35, got Rye off to a positive start, but then leg spinner Henry Taylor took 5-6 and Rye’s innings collapsed. Eastbourne eased past in 18 overs to win by 9 wickets.

This Saturday Rye 2nds host Firle 1st XI in another match where Rye need points to avoid relegation.

Rye Thirds lost away to the Division Leaders Kerala Strikers 2nds by 30 runs. Rye dismissed the strikers for 173 with Alex Stone, Toby Channon and Neil Archer with 2 wickets apiece. Rye fell short despite Kris Morton, 54, and James Jury, 33, creating in a strong position, but then a collapse. This Saturday Rye 3rds host Crowjurst Park 4ths at Icklesham.

The Club is hosting an End of Season BBQ at The Salts on Saturday September 3 at 7:30pm to which all Members are welcome.
