Rye Sports Centre will be taking part in this year’s national Swimathon in aid of charities Cancer Research UK and Marie Curie.

Swimathon is the world’s biggest annual fundraising swim. Since its launch in 1986 more than 725,000 participants have taken part and raised well over £50 million which has been distributed to 36 different charities.

You can choose to swim in a team of between two and five people at distances of 400m, 1.5km, 2.5km or 5km. The swimming pool in Rye is 25m long so in lengths, you can do between a leisurely 16 lengths (400m) to a challenging 200 lengths (5k).

Rye swimming pool will be hosting the event on Saturday March 30 from 10:30am to 1:30pm and Sunday March 31 from 8:30am to 11:30am. If you would like to take part you can sign up at www.swimathon.org

If a Swimathon is too much for you this year, you can start training for next year by joining the Sports Centre’s Swim School Programme. They work in partnership with Swim England to deliver their Learn to Swim Pathway for children and adults. Their lesson programme follows a nationally recognised syllabus and awards system produced by swimming’s governing body. More information can be found here.
