This season’s excellent campaign continued as Rye Town went marching into the semi-finals of the Robertsbridge Intermediate Cup.  Saturday March 24 saw a short trip to The Bulverhythe Ground to play Bexhill Town and a period of extra time was required to settle a very close cup tie.
Bexhill took the lead in the 22nd minute before Charlie Stevens replied for Town from the penalty spot. Half time saw the team level at one apiece.
Six minutes into the second half and and Bexhill again got their noses in front to go 2-1 up.  It looked as if this was going to be enough to see them through until a minute from time when Dom Cruttenden found the net to bring the teams level once again and the final whistle blew with a full-time score ending in a two-all draw and a match running into extra time..
The momentum was now with the away side and they capitalised on this in the 115th and 119th minute with a brace from Rob Levett leaving a final score after extra time of 2-4 to Rye Town.
Town’s man of the match went to Sam Richardson and the match sponsor was Pikes Laundry Services.
The Easter Weekend throws up a busy schedule for Rye with two home games on the agenda. Saturday March 31 at The Salts sees the visit of Bexhill AAC in the quarter final of the ESFL Premier Travel Challenge Cup. Game kick-off is at 2:30pm, the match sponsors are Rope Walk Cafe.
Easter Monday April 2 and League Leaders Hollington are in town.  Kick-off is at 3pm at the Salts and a very tight, physical game is expected as Town seek to become the first team to beat Hollington this season in the East Sussex Football Premier League. The match sponsors are Tom Jebb Decorating Services.
It would be great to see as many local supporters there as possible to encourage our team. The bar and tuck shop will be open for refreshments and everyone is welcome, including families.  A Rye Town win will put them only 3 points behind the leaders, so this should be good!
