The Cinque Ports Arms pub in Rye hosted the Rye crib league pairs competition on December 5 with over thirty players taking part, from Hasting, Tenterden and Woodchurch as well the local players. It was an enjoyable evening of competitive crib with many close games being played.
The local pairing, Tim Morgan and Paul Szabo, representing the Waterworks micro pub beat a pair from Tenterden Club in the first semi-final and they then played the Trevor Chandlor and Dave Happe pairing from Tenterden, who had beaten a pair from The Old King John in Hastings in the second semi-final,and were last year’s winners.
The final went right down to the wire with one leg each before the third leg which the Rye pair lost to the Tenterden pair by five holes.
The league matches are played on Tuesday evenings in the winter and there are two leagues, A and B, with eight teams in the A league and seven in the B league. The Rye Harbour Social Club currently stands top of the A league, having not lost a match, and in second place is the Pipemakers in Rye who have lost one match.
The B league leaders are the Bonny Cravat from Woodchurch followed by Tenterden Club A.
