It has been well documented that the services provided by Rother District Council are being removed as the competition for scarce resources increases. The starting point has been the removal of services which are non-statutory, of which sports facilities is one.

Rye Cricket Club has been planning for this for a number of years with investment in machinery, and taking on an increasing responsibility for wicket preparation and maintenance of the outfield.

This has been made possible by the increasing support from the local business community and local charitable organisations. This week the Rye Cricket Club chairman put the final touches to the new picket fence, and the raising of the sponsorship boards. In addition the club has published its fixture card with the support of sponsors, and this Saturday the club will be unveiling new sponsors of our wickets, of which more next week.

So we would like to extend our appreciation to: Bournes Moves, Diamond Koz, Skinners of Rye, Rush, Witt & Wilson, The Mermaid Inn, My Sweet Old Etcetera, Jempson Foundation, Peter Farrow, Phillips & Stubbs, Matt Cooke, Mahdi Lounge, Dynamic Events, Haydens, Winchelsea CC, Ashdown Hurrey, Charles Palmer, Nice Works, Pinkster Gin, Nigel Bassett osteopath, Jon Jaros, Rye Bay Fitness, Chandlers Roofing, Parkers Building, Sussex Plumbing Supplies, Johnson’s Fruiterers, Armour Flooring, Khanz Indian restaurant and Marinos.

In addition the support for the junior section from the Rye Fund and the Ted Baker Trust is invaluable.

All of which ensures one of the oldest cricket clubs in the world continues to put willow to leather, and helps to keep the Cricket Salts as a place for people to enjoy.
