Three want to join council

Rye Town Council advertised a vacancy on the council after long-serving councillor Sam Souster resigned shortly after the recent elections but, after no-one called for a by-election, co-options were called for instead, writes Charles Harkness. Three people have expressed an interest – Justin Erswell, Jonathan Dellar and Ella Bishop – the last of whom was the one candidate not elected in the recent election. The council will then decide who to co-opt at a council meeting, open to the public, after hearing from the candidates whose details and reasons for seeking co-option will be circulated next week to the current councillors.
