Further to the report in Rye News published on April 28, East Sussex County Council’s (ESCC) public consultation on Access to the Countryside is open till July 29.

In response to a request for information, ESCC spokesman, Andy Le Gresley, stated that the transfer of asset ownership would be one option, along with others such as leasing out or some other contractual arrangement. In relation to Johnson’s Field and Camber Sands in particular, the option evaluation “will be informed by the consultation responses”.

The consultation survey and link to the draft strategy are available on the ESCC website.

  1. My wife is a double amputee but can walk with prosthetic legs and crutches. In the the winter months we can walk our dog on Camber Sands, using the car park and nearby access to the beach. I think wheelchair users probably have no access at all.
But in the summer months when dogs are not allowed on the beach by the carpark, our only access when we have the dog with us, is across Johnsons Field. Since the work on the beach there involved banking up the shingle quite steeply, she finds it very difficult to get on to the sands.
We have asked to park in the carpark so we can walk along the beach and go straight to the part where dogs are allowed. but this involves walking our dog across the part where they are NOT allowed. We are not even allowed to park there if we have the dog with us.
Not expecting the rules to be changed just for us, but a bit of flexibility and common decency would be nice.
PS we do ALWAYS clean up our dogs mess, and do our best to stop him bothering picnickers.

  2. Camber Sands was I believe legally made a public place of enjoyment to all.The sale of Camber Sands could well be illegal .
Please everyone stop this from happening .

  3. Selling camber sands to a private organisation, what is the world coming to? Camber sands is loved and enjoyed by both residents of camber and non, selling it would be a travesty.
