Drum roll please!

The Rye Bonfire Society annual auction is always an exciting affair, you never know what’s going under the hammer. In 2025, one of the items that attracted a lot of attention was a performance by the fabulous Ryebellion Drummers. Yes, the bonfire society fundraising females really did sell the drummers!

Helen and Glen Shipston fought off fierce competition to secure a one-off drum from the Bonfire Society’s drummers, and they chose last Wednesday evening to invite Ryebellion to perform and to celebrate with friends visiting from New Jersey in the United States. Ruth and Jeremy from the Cinque Ports pub kindly turned their beer garden over to the drummers for them to do what they do best, make some noise! Thank you!

Ryebellion in full flow

It’s fair to say the evening was a huge success, the American visitors loved it, as did the array of other holiday makers and locals who happened to be in town and heard the drums calling to them.

Amongst the assembled audience were one off drumming recruits, Hattie and Kim. You may have read about them in another Rye News article, on how having been drawn in by the beat of Ryebellion, they found themselves in the bass section during a regular Monday night practice session.

Ryebellion hope that Glen and Helen, and their guests from both Rye and the States, enjoyed the evening.

And, who knows, maybe Ryebellion will be going under the hammer again in 2027…
