Denise Ellis has been manager of the Sue Ryder charity shop on the High Street in Rye for 25 years. On Wednesday, January 30 volunteers and staff gathered to celebrate the milestone of someone they describe as dedicated, kind and generous.

Three colleagues from the charity’s head office came to the shop to congratulate her and present her with an award. Deputy manager Mandy Robertson arranged for a cake and the shop’s volunteers clubbed together for a garden centre voucher.

Phil Moore, Sue Ryder retail area sales manager, thanked her for her dedication and commitment to the charity. “Denise has become part of the fabric of our Rye shop. Her hard work and leadership have helped the charity raise more money to support people relying on its end-of-life care and grief support, and that is certainly something to celebrate. On behalf of everyone at Sue Ryder, I’d like to wish Denise many more prosperous years ahead and continued fulfilment and happiness in her role.”

Volunteers also paid tribute. “Denise is such a warm and caring person” said Sue. “Denise is a very hardworking and dedicated manager” said Ernest. Jane praised how good it was to work with her. “”Denise is such a lovely welcoming person and really patient with all the volunteers, staff and customers. It is a pleasure working with her in the shop.”

The Sue Ryder shop is at 16 High Street and offers a huge variety of quality donated goods including clothing, books, bric-a-brac and entertainment. They also stock a full range of brand new items including greetings cards and seasonal gifts.
