Neon spandex, leg warmers and parachute pants will be much in evidence this weekend, March 18 and 19 at Pontin’s, when the holiday park hosts a 1980s “48 Hour Party”. Headline acts include Sonia, the Real Thing, Jive Bunny, Bucks Fizz, Musical Youth and Dr and the Medics. There will also be a George Michael tribute singer and a Chubby Brown tribute, with a Jungle Fever ball on Friday night and a Time Traveller’s ball on Saturday.

The party is a closed event so there will be no day passes available; however, Rye is usually visited by some of the more adventurous party-goers and cafes can expect to sell a lot of strong black coffee on Saturday and Sunday mornings to customers sporting shoulder pads, fishnet gloves and Miami Vice jackets. Anyone interested in future party weekends should look at the website. Then dust down your leotard, put on the styling mousse, get into the groove and start practising that moonwalk
