Fairlight artist Anna Wilson-Patterson has launched a 2020 calendar of local coastal scenes and a new paperback book of paintings “At Winchelsea Beach”.

Her paintings are inspired by the haunting coastline of Rye Bay and Dungeness. She wanders the open vistas of shingle, sand and sea punctuated by fishermen’s shacks, railway carriages, groynes and wild flowers.

Using water mixable oils, applying the paint with knives onto wooden boards, her gestures of adding, dragging and removing paint imitate the natural world, the tidal ebb and flow, the movement of clouds and wind.

Drawn to desolate peaceful places, she is known locally for her evocative and many layered paintings of The Red Roofed Hut, Mary Stanford Lifeboat House and Derek Jarman’s Prospect Cottage at Dungeness.

To meet the artist, Anna has a stall at the Rye Harbour Christmas Fair,  November 30 and December 1, 10:30am to 4pm at Rye Harbour Sailing Club  Her publications make splendid gifts and signed copies are also available from both Rye Art Gallery and the Avocet Gallery and Tea Room.
