Floral delights in church

Over the weekend of August 18-20, St Laurence Church, Guestling, hosted its annual flower show. And what a success it was. The weather in the main was lovely, just a couple of short sharp showers that sent people scurrying for shelter for a few minutes inside the church, and that was no hardship because that was where the floral arrangements were being displayed.

There were no less than 39 displays all based on the theme of “A Floral Look at Life” The subjects ranged from “The Theatre “, “The Archers” to ” Days at the Seaside”. Having spent a pleasant hour admiring these offerings I then sampled the lovely salads on sale. These were very nice, but were put into the shade by the scrumptious summer pudding made by Gaye Hardiman. I ate my food in the churchyard, enjoying the view over the valley up to Fairlight Church on the skyline. We were then treated to some songs by Molly Townson, choirmaster of the church accompanied by Rev.Val Gibbs at the organ.

All this was thanks to a very hard working band of volunteers who made this happen, especially Neil Perry, the verger of St Laurence, Neil informs me that approximately £3200 was raised for the church funds. Look out for this next year, well worth a visit.
