Last Saturday, June 24, saw a Lemonaid Family Fun Day at Rye Rugby Club to help fund potentially lifesaving treatment for barber Steve Lemon.

Steve, who founded Rye Barbers in Cinque Ports Street and has three children, has been diagnosed with bowel cancer which has spread to his liver required immediate action with gruelling chemotherapy treatment, said his family – and may need specialist treatment later, not all of which may be available on the NHS.

The Family Fun Day was therefore part of a crowdfunding bid organised by his family to raise £50,000 for treatment – and eleven year old Owen Burgess has raised at least £100 by having his head shaved.

Earlier in June a fundraising concert was held in Peasmarsh Memorial Hall featuring local singer and songwriter Tommy Ludford. To donate to Steve’s cause visit www.justgiving.com/crowdfunding/Stevelemon.

Over £28,000 has already been raised which has enabled Steve and his wife to visit different hospitals to speak to other specialists about his future care.

A good family event – and never mind the drizzle
