Thrifty food shoppers’ alert

As supermarket prices escalate by up to 20% in some cases, our very own Wednesday market continues to offer competitively priced locally sourced fruit, veg, meat, fish, cheese and home smoked specialties of superb quality.

There is a misconception that farmers markets are expensive but produce at Rye’s Wednesday market doesn’t travel very far. The lamb comes from Peasmarsh, the beef from Robertsbridge, the venison is wild and all game is shot locally. If you fancy trying goat, Darren Lewis has this available too.

Black and/or white puddings for breakfast?

If you are lucky you can sometimes find an unexpected bonus in this convivial personal shopping experience. Customers are keen to share their favourite recipes and Darren is very generous in offering his tried and tested cooking tips.

Why not visit the market next Wednesday? It’s behind the Cinque Ports on Cinque Ports Street. Give the stall holders time to set up, they start arriving around 7:30am. If you want more information, refer back to the Good game come on down article as published in Rye News on 24 March this year.
