Belinda & James, a young-at-heart retired couple from London have been big fans of the RNLI since owning a RIB on the Thames for over twenty years.

Although they are not connected to the RNLI they are humbled by the unique organisation’s 6,500 volunteers; whether they are boat crews, shore crew, lifeguards or fundraisers and wish to put their “new found freedom” to good use in supporting their gallant efforts by raising funds for a ‘D’ Class Lifeboat.

They also get to drive to some of the most beautiful and diverse coastline around the UK and Ireland in their Challenge car which they have named ‘SPLASH’ – come sun, wind, or storm!

RNLI Rye Harbour were thrilled to welcome them again, as this is not their first challenge or visit on Sunday August 27. So far they have raised over £70,000.

Claire Robus-Bolton, Family liaison officer at RNLI Rye Harbour said: “James and Belinda enjoyed their visit and were made up with the number of crew and supporters waiting for them at station. They were especially pleased to have photos with the crew who had been to pride in Hastings and with Stormy Stan who they hadn’t seen at any other station so far. They stayed for an hour or so and had tea, homemade sausage rolls and Victoria sponge. They presented the station with a plaque to commemorate the visit and challenged the crew to a quiz about their visit to Eastbourne station which was the one before they visited us. They are hoping to return for a final visit next year to commemorate the 200th year anniversary of the RNLI.”
