Your very first car

Just a little bit of fun in these gloomy days for our readers. Can you remember your very first car and what happened to it?

My first car was a grey Austin A30 and my girlfriend, now my wife, brought the car for me. In 1967 the price was £35, all her savings.

I picked up my girlfriend and our two friends from Tenterden and went to Hastings to see the Bonny and Clyde film. Coming home got as far as Brede Hill when the car conked out – black smoke everywhere. Got it going again after my passengers pushed the car up the hill with me driving the car in first gear. Managed to get it to the top with black smoke bellowing out everywhere and finally got to Tenterden.

But sadly towards the end, my first car was using more oil than petrol and finally my car went to heaven (well, scrapyard).
