Rye Sea Cadets are pleased to be able to announce that we will be opening our Junior Sea Cadet section to cadets who are aged from 9 years old starting on 9 January 2026.

This is an excellent opportunity to learn life skills based on the traditions of the Royal Navy.

During the winter months, cadets will learn practical skills including first aid, seamanship (rope work), cooking, drill and ceremonial, map and compass reading, environmental awareness, community and citizenship and how to stay safe afloat.

During the summer months, cadets are out on the water in our own rowing boats and kayaks with plenty of opportunities to get out in sailing boats.

PO (SCC) Phil Whiteman, Commanding Officer said, “This is an exciting time for the unit, who have been in the town since 1952, with the opening up of our age range to 9 year olds. This now means that we have our Junior Sea Cadets from ages 9-12, Sea Cadets from ages 12-18 and Royal Marines Cadets from ages 13-18.”
