“First of its Kind” bowls club award

Rye Bowls Club has been awarded a “First of its Kind” plaque in honour of its efforts to make the club and green more accessible to all. The disabled facilities include an entrance ramp, disabled toilets and a second smaller green for an alternative to Lawn bowls (with several pieces of equipment to assist people with restricted mobility).

The club hosted the refreshments for the second Disability Awareness Day held in Rye on 20 June and all participants were able to have a go at bowling on the Green.

Dan Lake of the Disability Awareness Group presented the plaque to some of the club members, following a recent league match. Dan said he was “sure the strong relationship between the club and group would continue to develop.”

The Bowls Club is growing in strength and should be proud of its achievements, in its second year of independence away from the management of Rother District Council. It’s not out of the woods yet and is always looking for people interested in joining our bowls family, which also offers a social membership to newbies not ready to join as full members. This enables people to try out their skills, learn from the more experienced bowlers and attend their growing number of social events.

Upcoming events
The Mantuary – a social meeting for men, every Tuesday morning.
Ladies Night Swap Shop – first Wednesday evening in the month.
Charity match – Rye Firefighters v Club Members match on 9 August.
Additional add-hoc Bowls Taster mornings through the season.
Bingo fundraiser – date to be confirmed.

Feel free to get in touch, to have a free try-out bowls session, or get more information about any of the above.

Or maybe come along to the Green Waves Festival at Tilling Green on 15 August where you can have a chat and find a makeshift rink to have a go with some of the club members.

Thank you to our sponsors

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank all our sponsors for the 2026 season – The Mermaid Inn, Skinners of Rye, Spec Savers Tenterden, Rock Channel Marine, Yummies of Rye, and In Action Bowls Wear. Also to Sweet Williams, Rye Butchers and Rye Hire for sponsoring our fixtures. The support from these businesses is gratefully received and the club could not run without them. So sincere thanks, to them all, from all of the club members.
