With a week to go before the start of the Green Waves Community Festival, we preview the Saturday and Sunday activities.
On Saturday, August 30 from 11am to 5pm, we are holding a classic summer fete and the master of ceremonies for the day will be our lovely mayoress Niki Stuart. There will be a variety of different stalls, a crockery smash (hopefully on both days), a bouncy castle, a dog show, music from Erin Colley, Rye Ukulele Band, dancing from Rye Dance Centre, martial arts from SKMA and games for all the family. We also have a burger van, hog roast, ice cream, tea, coffee and cakes and everybody’s favourite: a beer tent.
Then from 5pm until 10:30pm, we have live music. More details here.
On Sunday, August 31 from 11am to 4pm, it’s a pirate party. Our master of ceremonies for the day will be former mayor Jonathan Breeds. We will have drumming from Ryebellion Drummers, music from the Racketeers, Rye Harbour Herrings and rock and roll band Something Else, and a performance from Step up and Dance Line dancers. As well as stage and arena performances, we have various stalls, a pirate craft table, games, and a best dressed adult and kids pirate competition. In terms of food and drink: a burger van, jacket potatoes, ice cream, hot and cold drinks and yes, the beer tent will still be with us.
Plus we hope to have a special visit from a Game of thrones star…
Volunteers are still needed over the weekend, so if you would like to help email daniellake8@hotmail.com or call 07584 435732.
