Rye Castle museum will be holding a children’s craft afternoon at East Street museum on Wednesday February 19 from 2pm-4pm.
With Rye’s scallop festival the following week, it was decided that it would be fun to have a sea life theme with scallop shells to paint and decorate. Children can make a moveable paper fish and there will be various other pirate and mermaid crafts.
This is a free event and is suitable for children aged 4-11 with an accompanying adult.
Also on at East Street next week is our next Third Tuesday action day for volunteers on February 18. This is a chance for people to come and get involved in the museum and help with some of the behind-the-scenes activities. We have a wonderful collection of historical photos that need to be put into acid-free sleeves – a really good way to see what is in the collection. There is always lots of talk about the pictures and memories and knowledge shared. Also planned is the task of putting together presentation packs of old copper coins for sale, and helping prepare for the children’s craft day. There is also a lovely lunch provided free produced by Jen and David Tomkinson.

We have new ideas planned for 3 East St museum which will open weekends from Saturday April 5 and is free to enter.
The museum at Ypres Tower is open every day. There is a small entrance charge for adults and children go free.
