There was cause for celebration recently at Simply Italian after the popular family-run restaurant was voted the best place for pizza in Rye.
For many local residents and visitors alike, the result will come as little surprise. In the heart of the town on The Strand, the restaurant has built a loyal following over the years thanks to its generous portions, authentic Italian cooking and warm family welcome. It is particularly well known for its pizzas, which have become a firm favourite with diners of all ages.
The award reflects not only the quality of the food but also the dedication of the team behind the business. Consistently busy throughout the year, Simply Italian has earned a reputation for combining traditional Italian flavours with a relaxed and welcoming atmosphere. Customers regularly praise the friendly service, excellent value and the restaurant’s ability to make everyone feel part of the family.
Kuba, the pizza cook, and Frank the chef, who stands in for him on Kuba’s day off, both love pizzas. Kuba has been cooking them for 17 years in different restaurants and works from his heart. His favourite to prepare is Pizza Reale with goat’s cheese, and it is, alongside N’Duja, one of the most popular with customers. Both men were very excited to receive the award. Frank has 25 years’ experience so no wonder his pizzas are so brilliant. He loves the meaty ones with rocket and shavings of Parmesan. They agree that while they can add pineapple to pizza if requested, Italians do NOT do so.
As news of the accolade spread, many regular customers took to social media to offer their congratulations. For a restaurant whose motto is “simple food served with a smile”, being recognised as Rye’s best pizza destination is a fitting reward for years of hard work and passion.
Theresa, one of the managers of Simply Italian said, “We are so proud of our chefs here in Rye. they cook with passion, they cook from the heart and all our customers love the pizzas. We were thrilled to get this recognition for them.”
