Fifteen years ago Luke Brabants painted a small mural that brightened up the hall at Tilling Green Community Centre adding colour and vibrancy to an otherwise dull room. He went on to create art on vehicles, walls, and canvases in many different shapes and sizes that can now be appreciated around Hastings, throughout Rother District and across the UK. Last week he completed a 24ft by 8ft work covering the old cafeteria wall of the Community Centre facing Mason Road.
The chosen scene highlights the upcoming Green Waves Festival scheduled for August 29-31 and can be enjoyed by everyone entering Tilling Green whether by foot or vehicle. It was commissioned by Tilling Green Events who obtained permission for the project from the Rye Partnership, successfully fundraised, found the right artist and then finally erected the siding on which the mural is painted. It’s taken many, many months and lots of hard work but everyone now viewing it agrees it was well worth the effort.
Upon completion Luke said: “I thoroughly enjoyed working on this project. It was great to create something bright, fun and engaging for the Tilling Green community. I hope the mural is a talking point for the festival, and can get not just the neighbourhood together, but can help bring the larger Rye community and tourists to Tilling Green for a weekend of fun and games and a few cold beers.”
The organisers of the Green Waves Festival fully agree and are bringing together all the elements of a dynamic event with activities for the whole family including a dog show, ten bands, dance performances, a tug of war contest, a pirate’s party with a DJ dance and penalty shoot out event for the youth plus lots, lots more. Make sure you put August 29-31 in your calendar and come to the Tilling Green Community Centre where you’ll be greeted by Luke’s beautiful mural.
