I feel the need to cough politely before tentatively looking ahead to a well-known
December festival that’s too soon to mention. Here goes:
Rye Players will stage Crazy Christmas at the Haunted Hotel by Paul Johnson in
four performances over the weekend December 12-14 at Rye Theatre, the
wonderful purpose-built space at Rye College. This year’s panto is a mighty
undertaking with singing, dancing, very special effects and even a trap door or two.
Director, Xan Kite, recruited her production team in April and she’s already enlisted
support from some generous and gifted people in our town. Rye Dance Centre will
showcase their talented young students; Martin Bruce is musical director; Oliver
Brooks will contribute poster design and Charlotte Brooks will help produce a brand
new stage set to be built by Kieran Howlett. The list goes on and grows every day as
the buzz gets around. The production has nearly everything it needs. Apart from
actors. You might as well know now, there’s a beast, a “something in the cellar” and it
might be blue. There’ll be some competition for this role and not just because it has
no lines.
Auditions will take place at the Old Scout Hut at the entrance to Rye Leisure Centre
on Sunday, July 6 from 2 -5 pm. Xan and her talent scouts want to see everybody
and anybody who wants to get involved in the only panto in town this year. It’s big,
bold, colourful and loud. Getting it ready will be a lot of fun. If you have any questions
or if that date is no good but you’d still like to be seen, email Xan at:

It’s going to be spectacular! Oh yes it… (That’s enough. Ed.)
