There will definitely be an election on Thursday 18 December to fill the councillor vacancy on Rye Town Council. Five people submitted their nomination papers by last Friday’s deadline – 4pm on 21 November.
The by-election was called following the death of long serving councillor and former mayor Jo Kirkham who died in October.
The five local people hoping to be elected are (in alphabetical order).

Owen Thompson
Rye News will be inviting all five to write about their candidacy ahead of the election.
Applications, amendments or cancellations of postal votes and amendments or
cancellations of proxy votes must reach the Electoral Registration Officer at Town
Hall, Bexhill-on-Sea, East Sussex, TN39 3JX by 5 pm on Wednesday 3 December
2025. Applications for new postal votes can be made online at www.gov.uk/applypostal-vote
