After the summer break, Rye Town Council meets for the first time on Monday 7 September at 6.30pm at the town hall.
The agenda includes the latest on the public toilets on Station Approach. At the council’s last meeting in July, councillors heard how an application for funds to help replace the toilets had been turned down by Rother District Council (RDC).
Councillors will also hear the latest on how the transfer of assets to the council from RDC is going. As part of the government’s devolution plans the county and district councils will be be replaced by a new authority – East Sussex Council. For this meeting the future ownership of Rye cemetery is on the agenda.
The meeting is open to the public and will be followed by the Planning and Townscape Committee. At its last meeting in July councillors decided to object to plans by Rye Tennis Club to build two new indoor padel courts, two all-weather tennis courts, new car and cycle parking, and a pavilion for changing rooms and toilets.
The committee listed their objections as “overdevelopment of the area, the large structure being the height of a three-storey house and concerns about the noise of the padel courts in a residential area.”
