David Roder and his team at Rye Waterworks were thrilled to receive the award for LocAle Pub of the Year 2023, making it six awards so far since he opened.

CAMRA’s LocAle initiative promotes pubs stocking locally-brewed real ale in order to reduce the number of ‘beer miles’ from brewery to pub cellar in response to growing consumer demand for quality local produce. The South East Sussex CAMRA branch has set its limit at 35 miles.

Peter, from the south east branch made a speech and gave David the award. “The aim of the award is to encourage pubs to keep beer-miles down to a minimum and, of course, if you start your own brewery just up the road that is pretty easy: that was a smart move, David. Everyone that I have spoken to tonight considers your beer to be excellent so it is not difficult to see why you have won this award. This is our LocAle Pub of the Year and out of all the pubs that qualified for LocAle we have chosen The Waterworks as the best one for 2023. Well done, David, and your team.”

David was thrilled with the six awards but the message he wanted to get across to all his punters was that it is a team effort and that without the support from Ulla, Morganne, Jo-Jo, Lotte, Ross, Pete, Paul, Debbie, Damo and Tim the pub would not be the award-winner that it is.
