Autumn plant fair success

Great Dixter House and Gardens Charitable Trust held its annual Autumn Plant Fair on Saturday and Sunday October 7-8 in the field at the bottom of the site. Some 1900 people came over the two days, in spite of the forecast of early rain on Saturday, which happily did not materialise. The attendance was better than in 2016, when 1500 people passed through the gates, so receipts are expected to be higher.

The stallholders and nurseries were really pleased with their takings, and there were compliments for the organisers about the way the stallholders’ expert talks were handled. A bell was rung and an announcement made when the next talk was about to start, and this meant those interested just made their way to that part of the field. This gave an informal feel to the talks, and attracted bystanders who would not normally listen

Congratulations to Linda Jones for the overall organisation and to over 50 volunteers, who helped, especially the car parkers, as finding space for 1,000 visitors on the Saturday in the Great Dixter grounds was not a simple task!
