Newspaper article on the concert by Johnny Nash and Bob Marley at the De La Warr Pavilion in 1972 from the Bexhill Observer

On July 16, 1972 at the De La Warr Pavilion in Bexhill, Bob Marley and the Wailers played what is thought to be their first ever gig in the UK. This was the year that Bob Marley and the Wailers signed to CBS Records and toured around the UK supporting Johnny Nash, whose biggest hits were I can see clearly now and Stir it Up (written by Bob Marley).

This summer, on July 16, the De La Warr are celebrating the 50-year anniversary of this event with an outdoor, beachside festival to celebrate the life and musical influence of Bob Marley. The full line-up is be announced soon.

Can you help?

In preparation for this, they are keen to hear from anyone who may have been to this historic gig or who knows anyone who was. Do you have an original ticket or poster, any photographs or other memorabilia to contribute to this celebration? If so, they would like to hear from you rsvp@dlwp.com.
