Rye Art Gallery is humming with activity. No sooner than one exhibition ends the walls and decks are cleared for the next.

One of the exhibits by New Road Artists awaits hanging

The Royal Birmingham Society of Artists’ show was successful in promoting wider interest in the gallery, director Jane Fenn told me. Amongst the wide range of art on display, it was the sculpture that sold best. Local people however were not so conspicuous as purchasers, but that reflects the present economic climate of uncertainty.

Next to open from June 17 to July 9 is an exhibition by the New Road Artists, based at the Rye Creative Centre. The group includes recent graduates through to established award-winning artists in painting, drawing, print-making, photography, textiles and sculpture. The preview is on June 16, 6-8pm, when the new gallery programme for June 2017 to January 2018 will be available.
