Glittering Prizes

Having wowed the audience at the Rye Festival in September, there will be one last chance to see Kenneth Broberg in action before he returns to the USA. On Friday October 13, Broberg joins the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra at St Mary in the Castle for a programme of Beethoven including the 5th Piano Concerto (the Emperor).

For Kenneth Broberg, it is a year of glittering prizes. Having won first prize at the Hastings International Piano Concerto in March this year, he went on to become silver medallist at the quadrennial van Cliburn International Piano Competition in Fort Worth, Texas. He was identified early on in the Hastings competition as someone to watch and his rendition of Gershwin’s Piano Concerto in F with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra at the finals made him a popular winner.

This will also be a fine opportunity to check out the Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra under Marcio DaSilva, who are at the start of a second very exciting new season as a fully professional orchestra.  The concert, part of Battle Festival, is packed with the most stirring of Beethoven’s music. Apart from the 5th Piano Concerto, they will perform the Coriolan Overture and the Fifth Symphony.

The Beethoven concert, performed by Hastings Philharmonic Orchestra and conducted by Marcio daSilva, takes place at 7pm on Friday October 13 at St Mary in the Castle, 7 Pelham Crescent, Hastings TN34 3AF, featuring Kenneth Broberg on piano. Tickets £17.50/£22.50 from the on line box office.
