The three lucky winners of our book competition have been notified of their victory and will be rushing along to The Rye Bookshop on the High Street to pick up their hardback editions of Go Tell a Watchman, the new bestseller by Harper Lee. We asked you to name the actor who won an Oscar for his portrayal of Atticus Finch in the film version of To Kill a Mockingbird, Lee’s first masterpiece. The answer of course was Gregory Peck. Well done to all of those who got the answer right and our thanks to the Rye Bookshop for providing the prizes. John Minter, publisher of Rye News, pictured above, conducted the draw in public at the Standard in front of impartial witnesses.

Lizzie Lee, manager of the bookshop told us that the next event at the store will be Tea with Mapp and Lucia, where Guy Fraser-Sampson, who has written three novels featuring EF Benson’s characters, will be signing copies of his books. Come along to the bookshop from 4pm on September 5 for a chance to meet the author, writes Seana Lanigan.
