Jamie’s meat and cheese are crowd-pleasers and draw the punters in every week. When you visit there is always a buzz of happy customers. On Saturday, May 20, there was even more of a buzz with two wine companies tempting people’s palettes with wines from South Africa and Sussex.

There was a choice of wines from Ken Forrester Wines from South Africa: Chenin Blanc, Sauvignon Blanc, Petit Rose, Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc and Petit Pinotage. Ken Forrester has a superb reputation worldwide. Andy and Sharon, visiting from Surrey, spent time savouring the different wines, enjoying the complexity of flavours of some and the harmonious balance of the fruit and the oakiness of the Old Vine Reserve Chenin. Classic Pinotage aromas of spicy mulberries, plum pudding and cherries made the Petit Pinotage a winner for the tasters at Jamie’s.

Mountfield Winery was keen to showcase its award-winning sparkling wine. Lucinda and Simon Fraser planted their first vines in 2012 at their Sussex vineyard which is south-facing and has good protection from wind and frost. They have many events planned for 2023 including Cellar Door and BBQ on Saturday, August 26 from 11-3. Booking is essential www.mountfieldwinery.com

Jamie said: “We have had a fantastic day today with wines from our local region and from South Africa. Both have proved popular with the customers. There has been a lot of interest and people have purchased these wines for special occasions in their diary.”
