The Mayor, Town Clerk, Deputy Mayor, Councillors and Mace Bearers lined up outside St Mary’s on Wednesday June 10 for the civic funeral of former Mayor Roger Breeds writes Charles Harkness. As well as being Mayor, and the direct descendant of a Mayor in the 1500’s through 17 generations, he had been Speaker of the Cinque Ports and a Rother District Councillor, as well as holding many other offices in Rye and being active in many organisations throughout his life. His daughter Joanne read a long tribute, listing his many interests and his grand-daughters Emily and Amy read the poem “Rye-In Retrospect”.
