Community Shop’s share out

As everyone will be aware, sadly the Rye Community Shop has had to close its doors and we have had an enormously successful five years thanks to the tremendous support of our customers who have donated an amazing amount to the shop.

We were proud of the fact that we were an ‘old fashioned’ charity shop selling only recycled items donated by supporters which not only raised valuable cash for good causes, but also saved a tremendous amount from landfill. A lasting memory is of a young customer saying how much she loved the shop, as she could buy a whole new outfit for £5!

Our ethos was as much as to be able to support those who had little as to support those charities and groups which needed financial help.

As a result of the pandemic and our uncertainty about the future, we decided to postpone our funding rounds in 2020. We have waited until this latest lockdown easing to launch our final funding round, as now is likely to be the time that an injection of funds will be most valuable to the community.

To date we have supported 50 different local charities and community groups for a total of just over £85,000, and are pleased to be able to offer the balance of our accounts, which will total a further £50,000.

Applications for this funding will be available from kate2sims@aol.com from today with a closing date for applications being Friday, April 16. Unfortunately only electronic applications will be accepted. For any further information, please contact Kate at the above email address.

A huge thank you to everyone who has supported us. We hope that you will be as supportive of the new charity which has taken over our lease on 41 Cinque Ports Street when they are able to open.
