After electing a new mayor Rye Town Council meets next Monday on Zoom, followed by a meeting of the planning committee, and (hopefully) will hear reports from the town’s representatives on the county council and Rother District Council.

Other business includes hearing from the charity that has taken over the running of the Heritage Centre on Strand Quay, which wants to make some internal changes to the building, partly taking into account the pandemic’s social distancing needs, and considering a proposed bronze statue of Captain Pugwash in the Gun Garden.

One of the planning applications the committee will be looking at includes adding two parking spaces to a house in Udimore Road and, as parking meters arrive, there may be more of such requests.

As Rye now has an agreed town plan, the committee will also want to be involved in Rother District Council’s new planning strategy which will be reported back..
