Farmers’ Market loses fish stall

Wednesday, June 27, was Jasper Botterell’s last appearance at the Farmers’ Market on Strand Quay. Eric Chauvel, who took over the job of organising the market in January this year, told me he hopes to find another fresh fish vendor shortly. If any of our readers are interested contact him on 07817 521312.  Otherwise, it is business as usual for the rest of the stallholders.
Jasper’s father, John Botterell, has run the family business, both wholesale and retail, from his home at Rye Harbour for many years. “We’ll still be at other local markets in the district”, he said, “but our priorities have changed and my other son George is more at sea in his boat nowadays catching the fish. We are only  1½ miles from Rye and people can collect direct from us at Seafarers, Rye Harbour Road, TN31 7TT, but it’s best to phone first in case we’re at sea.”
