The fire brigade were called to a residential property in Old Lydd Road, Camber last week, Wednesday, April 15, and firefighters from the Ridge in Hastings and from Rye attended, along with support from Kent Fire and Rescue.

The fire started in a living room and the property was empty by the time the firemen arrived. After the fire was put out the property was ventilated to remove smoke.

A cat was rescued from the building, but died. The police were called to the incident to investigate it, but no response has been received from the police in reply to a Rye News enquiry.

A next door neighbour and the manager of The Dunes Bar, Jimmy Hyatt, both noticed the fire and the owner was taken to the Conquest Hospital with a burnt arm.

The fire could have been much worse as apparently as there were gas canisters nearby. Bar manager Jimmy said his main concern was to get people to safety when he heard screams and saw the smoke.  Other rescuers are believed to have included Anna Holly and Stefan Charles.
