From 11:15pm on August 11 to 5:30am on August 12 Rye’s Deadmans Lane from Rye Hill through to The Grove and Love Lane will temporarily become two way. It is normally one way from Rye Hill.

A popular short-cut which enables drivers in the know to avoid Rye’s one way traffic system (particularly at peak times, and because it ends by Rye College), it is occasionally used by drivers going the wrong way, causing mayhem.

Such closures are usually for railway work, like routine maintenance on the level crossing in Grove Road, on the Ashford side of Rye station (see photo above), and on this occasion the road closure applies to 30 metres either side of the level crossing.
