This year, Rye’s traditional Throwing of the Hot Pennies will take place on Bank Holiday Monday,  May 2, outside the Town Hall at 12:30pm.
The ceremony is part of Rye’s annual Mayor Making when the newly elected Mayor throws hot new pennies from the Council Chamber to children waiting below in Market Street.
The Mayor Making meeting will commence at 11am and it is expected that the current Deputy Mayor, Councillor Jonathan Breeds will be nominated to the office of Rye Mayor 2016-17. Cllr Michael Boyd will be nominated to serve as Deputy Mayor 2016-17.
This year, everyone is welcome to attend a Mayor Making Celebration on the same day at Tilling Green Community Centre, 1:30pm-5pm. In addition to bands, there will be stalls, activities and food and drink to purchase.
