As the sunny weather continues, the grass courts have opened at Rye LTC and the first grass tennis tournament takes place this Sunday afternoon, May 25 at 2pm. This is open to both members and non-members. Details can be found on the RLTC website: https://ryelawntennisclub.org.uk/event/opening-grass-tennis-tournament/

The eight grass courts are in superb shape for the start of the season and the club’s head groundsman, Adam Stunt, has been working long and hard to prepare them for action. He reports: “In what has been one of the driest and sunniest starts to spring, the courts are just about coping. In an ever-changing climate, we went from rather soggy to bone dry in a very short space of time. With threats of disease and pests, we are just about coming out the other side. The fine weather has meant lots of preparation could be done and some of the grass courts were open a week earlier than planned. Now the hard work starts to keep them looking good for the rest of the season.”

The croquet lawn will also be open for those who might prefer a slower game. The croquet lawn – like the courts – is in great shape and the club welcomes new or returning players of any ability. A friendly group will be on hand from 12pm to explain the rules and offer general encouragement.

The club has plenty of events planned for the summer months, from an Open Day on Saturday, June 21 to the Rye Annual Tennis Tournament from August 1-4, followed by the Two Generation and Junior tournaments. Details can be found on the Club’s website at https://ryelawntennisclub.org.uk/events/.

Rye Lawn Tennis Club is at 115 Military Road, Rye, East Sussex TN31 7NY.
