On Thursday, October 31 the usual chaos of market day was compounded by the fact that the A259 had to be closed in both directions.
Police set up road blocks and traffic diversions were put in place, a man’s body having been discovered in a ditch at around 10:30am along New Winchelsea Road.
A Sussex Police spokesman said: “At 10:30am this morning the body of a man was found in a ditch at the side of the A259 New Winchelsea Road, Rye.
“The road was closed for the body and scene to be examined and traffic diversions were put in place.”
At the time of publication there is no further information available other than the fact that Sussex Police are treating the death as “unexplained”, an update will follow in due course.
