The legendary Benny “The Jet” Urquidez gave a masterclass to the students of Sean Kinsella’s Martial Arts in Rye on Thursday 30 April. He is one most influential figures in the history of kickboxing and full-contact martial arts.

He was born in 1952 in Los Angeles, into a martial arts family and he began training as a child. His career is remarkable and it can be summed up in this headline fact:
“He retired undefeated, with a professional record often cited around 63 wins: 57 by knockout.”

He is a wonderful teacher and teaches from the heart. Watching him with Sean’s students was inspiring. He gave them advice and showed them how to be their very best person. His students learnt by repetition, to respect the craft, and train with intention not ego. He told the students that how you train reflects on how you live your life. He explained how to focus under stress, to have emotional control and the ability to stay calm in all situations.

Although he has a high profile in the martial arts world he is known for his humility and he believes that mastery is a lifelong journey.
