New fundraising for youth group

The Saturday Sale is a new fundraiser event which has been running for four weeks at the Queen Adelaide pub and internet cafe on Ferry Road. The idea of the sale was to support a new youth club (Rother Youth Group) which was set up by local, Meg Stone, who was disappointed with the total lack of provision for young people in Rye and surrounding areas.

The first Rother Youth Group started up in March and runs every Thursday night from 5:30pm until 7pm at St Mary’s Centre. More recently a second group has started every Monday evening at Tilling Green Community Centre from 6:30pm until 8pm.

The Saturday Sale raised £220 in the first month, which will go towards the youth group’s first half-term trip to Herstmonceux Science Museum, giving up to 30 young people the chance to visit (including travel by coach and a picnic lunch). All details about the Rother Youth Group, including the half-term trip, and many other future events, are on the Facebook page.

Volunteers Jackie Pepper, Lorna Streets and Flora and Luke Williams, who run the Saturday sale, are keen to raise funding for the youth club and any other worthy causes or projects in the area.

We would like to thank Celine and Bob of the Queen Adelaide, for hosting the sale, and enabling us to start this new venture.

Also a big thank-you for all the public support which we have received.

Please continue to support us with your donations and visit the sale for a bargain every Saturday from 1pm until 4pm, where you will receive a warm welcome.
