Temporary restriction on hospital visiting
To reduce the impact of flu, including the risks of spreading the virus to patients and staff, East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust began putting in restrictions on patient visiting from Tuesday, January 7.
These include temporarily limiting visiting to one visitor per patient per day, for most services. This also applies to those accompanying people waiting in the emergency departments at the Conquest Hospital in Hastings.
Exemptions apply to end of life care, the special care baby unit, and when visiting children under 16. Additional visitors will be permitted on compassionate grounds on a case-by-case basis for all other services.
Plans approved

The Planning and Townscape committee of Rye Town Council agreed to support all five of planning applications listed in the agenda of the meeting at their meeting on Monday, January 13.
However, most discussion revolved around expected changes in planning processes following the local government proposals recently announced by deputy prime minister Angela Raynor – on top of an expected 20% increase in housing targets for Rye.
You can read more about the local government changes and how the Rye Neighbourhood Plan might be affected elsewhere in Rye News.
Frozen
Last weekend’s football and rugby matches were both postponed because of frozen pitches.
Rye Town FC’s match away to Hollington United Community FC was cancelled on Saturday. The team travel to Sandhurst this Saturday, January 18 – kick off is at 2pm.
Rye Rugby Club’s match against Faversham was also postponed. This weekend the club take on Sheppey in Sheerness.
Rye crib league

Rye crib league is played on Tuesday evening in pubs and clubs around Rye, however there are no venues in the town willing to host so locals play for teams in nearby villages.
At the Christmas break Tenterden Club A were top of the league, followed by the Ancient Borough Arms also from Tenterden. The Romney Marsh League plays on Thursday at venues including Greatstone and Lydd.
