Smoke free beach

The beach at Camber is to be one of the first smoke free beaches in England – it has been designated a voluntary smoke free space.
Visitors are being asked to support the voluntary initiative by choosing not to smoke on the beach at Camber and also at Bexhill.
Rob Tolfree, acting director of East Sussex Public Health, said: “Second-hand smoke is just as toxic outdoors as it is indoors. Creating two smoke free beaches in East Sussex will help protect our children and young people from the effects of smoking by encouraging people to think twice before smoking on the beach.”
No longer in special measures

The local ambulance service is no longer in special measures following an announcement on March 6. The South East Coast Ambulance Service NHS Foundation Trust (SECAmb) says improvements mean it is no longer on the NHS Recovery Support Programme.
NHS England described the announcement as an important milestone for the trust and, while recognising that there is more to do to continue to improve services for our patients, paid tribute to the hard work of the trust over recent years.

Moon halo
Our feature picture this week is from Sunday evening, March 9. In clear skies above Udimore Road in Rye, David Mcloughlin took this photo of a moon halo. Also known as a lunar halo, it’s an optical illusion creating a large bright ring around the moon. The moonlight is refracted through ice crystals in the upper atmosphere.
