Rope Walk before and after

Overnight on November 5 and 6, East Sussex County Council resurfaced Rope Walk. This road has been a rutted mess for a long time. Cars were banned from parking from 6:30pm to 6am the next morning on threat of being towed away.

On the evening of November 5 the old surface was removed and cars were able to use most of the road with care the next day. On the evening of November 6 the new surface was laid and all was complete by Saturday morning.

Everything seems to have gone fairly smoothly though the machine that laid the new surface was noisy, caused some houses to shake, and a crack appeared in one property’s kitchen.

But the resurfacing did not go all the way to the railway track, stopping some 10 feet short.

So there may be a bump as you cross from the railway’s land to the council’s road – but nothing like the bumps that were there before in Rope Walk.
