It was another tough week for Rye Cricket Club as holidays, work and injuries saw Rye only able to field two teams on Saturday and concede the 3rd XI fixture, dashing their promotion hopes. However this Saturday the club could field four teams as availability has bounced back.
The first team took on the division leaders Bolney a team of “Galaticos”, who have dominated the division, in a match sponsored by My Sweet Old Etcetera. Bolney batted first and posted 343 all out from 44 overs. Four players hit half centuries, as they blitzed the boundary. Craig Pierce 3-59 and Harvey Otto 3-58 ensured Rye secured 10 bowling points. The Rye reply was initially led by Fin Thomson 61, but the middle order faltered to 120-5, but Ruari Cummings 43 and Harvey Otto 20 steered Rye to 204 all out and maximum batting points. Despite two defeats against Bolney, Rye have secured 30 points. This leaves Rye in fourth position in the division with three games left.
The problem left the seconds weakened and their recent run of poor results continued as they lost by 7 wickets to Iden. Rye batted first and slumped to 25-3. The innings was rescued by Jack Barras 55, and Freddie Mackenzie 24 as Rye reached 133 all out. Iden eased past the target as Rob Clemence hit 43 not out. This Saturday the seconds host Crowborough 1sts in a match sponsored by The Mermaid Inn. The 3rd XI play their final league match away to Herstmonceux 3rds at Ninfield.
